Summer’s finally here, and whether you’re heading off to the Algarve, planning a European road trip, or enjoying a few days along the coast, there’s nothing quite like that pre-holiday excitement.
But just before you leave, usually somewhere between packing your suitcase and double-checking your passport, a familiar thought creeps in:
“How safe are my valuable possessions back home?”
That’s where holiday storage in Exeter comes in – a simple way to protect your most valuable belongings so you can actually switch off and enjoy your break. Our short-term storage in Exeter is built exactly for this – flexible, secure, and available whenever you need it.

You don’t need to empty your entire house before you go on holiday. But there are certain items that are always worth protecting a little more carefully.
If you’d be genuinely upset to lose it, it’s probably worth storing. Our personal storage covers all of the above, and you can find out more about storing any type of asset in our dedicated guide. Not sure what size unit you’ll need? Our storage size guide makes it easy to work out.
It’s not about overthinking – it’s about making your holiday properly stress-free.
This is what it really comes down to. When you know your valuables are stored securely, you stop thinking about them. No late-night worrying. No asking neighbours to check in. No “what if” scenarios.
You can just enjoy your time away.
A professional storage facility is designed specifically for protection, not just everyday living.
At Your Store Exeter, that includes:
It’s a level of protection most homes simply aren’t built for.
Even in the UK, closed-up homes can get surprisingly warm in summer and humidity can build up over time.
That can affect electronics, paper documents, jewellery, and artwork. Using personal storage in Exeter ensures your items stay in a stable environment while you’re away.
You don’t need a long storage unit contract just for a holiday. Whether you’re away for a week, a month, or longer, our short-term storage options make it easy to store what you need without overcommitting. Want to know what it costs? Take a look at our storage prices – units start from less than £3 a day.
Short stays work just as well as longer ones, similar to how student storage in Exeter is often used over summer breaks.
Plans don’t always go exactly as expected. With 7-day access, you (or someone you trust) can still get to your belongings if needed – whether that’s before you leave or while you’re away. Any questions about how access works? Our FAQs cover everything.
Before you drop your items off, a little preparation makes everything easier:
It only takes a bit of time, but makes a big difference when you return.

Not used self storage before? Here’s everything you need to know before you book.
Do I need to book in advance, or can I turn up on the day?
We’d always recommend getting in touch as early as possible – ideally, a few weeks before your travel date. Summer is our busiest period, and units do get booked up, so contacting us ahead of time means you’re guaranteed the right unit at the right time. Contact us and we’ll sort everything quickly.
What size unit do I need for a few boxes of valuables?
For holiday storage – jewellery, electronics, documents, and a few boxes – our smallest unit (8x5ft, from £84/month including VAT) is usually more than enough. If you’re storing garden furniture or larger items alongside your valuables, a step up makes sense. Just give us a call, and we’ll advise you directly.
Is there insurance cover for items stored?
We’d always recommend insuring your stored items – particularly for higher-value belongings like jewellery, electronics, or artwork. Speak to us when you book and we can advise on the best approach for what you’re storing.
How much notice do I need to give when I want to end my storage?
Just seven days. Our contracts are open-ended with no long-term tie-in, so when you return from your holiday and want to close your unit, a week’s notice is all that’s needed.
Do you provide boxes and packing materials on site?
Packing materials are available at the facility, so if you arrive and need extra boxes, tape, or padding, we’ve got you covered. Transport help, including loading and unloading assistance, is also available if you need it.
What are your opening hours?
You can access your unit 7 days a week – Monday to Friday 7am – 9pm, and weekends 8am – 8pm. That flexibility means dropping items off before an early flight or collecting them on a Sunday when you return is never a problem.
Is there parking at the facility for loading and unloading?
Our site on Powlesland Road is fully tarmacked with easy drive-up access, making loading and unloading straightforward – even with larger items. We’re also easy to reach from the A30, A38, and M5.
The best holidays are the ones where you’re fully present, not thinking about what’s happening back home.
Holiday storage in Exeter is a simple step that makes a big difference. It’s not about being overly cautious – it’s about giving yourself one less thing to think about.
If you’re planning a trip and want that extra peace of mind, the team at Your Store Exeter is always happy to help you figure out what you might need.
